Employee Spotlight: Jack McCrum, Director of Optimization & Analytics

Behind every successful company are dedicated and talented individuals who drive progress and growth. Our employee spotlight series is all about introducing you to the exceptional members of the Reveel family. Get to know their unique backgrounds, discover their contributions, and gain a deeper understanding of the culture that makes Reveel a remarkable place to work.

1. How would you summarize what you do?

Transportation agreements are frustratingly complex by design. In my role as Director of Optimization & Analytics, I advise organizations how to better understand and utilize their transportation agreements to continuously drive savings in between negotiations with carriers. Sometimes this involves supporting strategic analyses or discussing industry trends, but often, I focus on supporting client initiatives via Reveel’s Platform and BI solution.

2. What makes you want to stay at our organization?

I’m still fairly new to Reveel, only having started in February. There are two aspects of the company though that really resonate with me: First, Reveel is leading (and evolving) our industry with innovations surrounding software solutions. Offering self-service products to customers is refreshing and I enjoy working with our team on developing new features. Second, is the people at Reveel. Being part of a smaller organization lends itself to a more tight-knit culture, but, it’s the people that comprise our culture that keep me feeling at home at Reveel.

3. What do you like about our company culture?

Reveel often feels more like an extended team rather than a company. It’s not a lack of professionalism or processes, or even a reflection of size. Instead, it’s a collaborative culture where you genuinely look forward to on-camera calls and interacting with your colleagues. Everyone shows up with purpose and a healthy sense of humor.

4. Tell us the most significant project you’ve handled and how it has impacted our company?

Our mission is, “To level the playing field with innovative shipping intelligence technology that gives businesses control over their parcel shipping expenses.”

One of the most significant projects that I’ve worked on while at Reveel has been the redesign of our BI solution. This project directly relates to our mission as it offers new and intuitive ways for our customers to engage with their data. This project impacts Reveel in a number of ways, but importantly, it offers a more seamless transition for customers when shifting between disparate platforms and allows our team to quickly provide polished solutions to our customers.

5. How does your current job compare with the previous jobs you’ve had?

It certainly ranks highly. I love getting up in the morning and working with my team on new solutions.

6. What things stood out for you about our management team?

What surprised me when I started with Reveel is how connected and accessible our leadership team is to the company. You see them actively participate in weekly calls, offer input on questions in Slack, congratulate new wins or life moments, the list goes on. In short, they are engaged and effective leaders. And, in my experience, this is a remarkable aspect of Reveel.

7. Which company values resonate with you the most?

It’s a tie between Empathy and Learning. The industry is evolving rapidly and continues to present twists and turns that impact organizations of all sizes. I strive to understand how teams are being impacted by these changes and appreciate being in a position to advise and support them. In short, I enjoy working to make life easier for my clients. This feeds into the second value, Learning. Due to the frequency of change, it is fun looking for new and innovative solutions to manage these challenges.

8. Which work benefit or perk is your favorite and why?

I appreciate the opportunity to go to client sites and engage directly with our client partners.  As a professional working at a software company, I am constantly surrounded by webpages, contracts, and spreadsheets.  It is refreshing to meet, and be encouraged to meet, with client partners to better understand their needs and the real-life applications of their business.

9. What’s unique about working for our organization?

The focus on continuous improvement and collaboration with IT.

10. What’s the best advice you can give to someone who wants to work for us?

Commit to the values. Reveel is a company that puts the ingredients for success out there for everyone. If you think about the values: Transparency, Learning, Partnership, Empathy, and Perseverance and incorporate them into your day-to-day approach towards work, you’ll not only fit in well with the company culture, but you will be also well equipped to provide value to our clients.

11. What motivates you?

I enjoy helping my customers make meaningful changes within their organization and find answers to difficult questions.
