In the wake of increasing COVID-19 cases and subsequent shipping disruptions, FedEx is temporarily increasing some surcharges for international shipments.
FedEx Express international parcel and freight shipments originating in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, and parcel shipments from China went into effect on November 30 and will continue until December 27. These temporary rate increases are substantial— packages from Japan and Korea see a 350% increase, while the other increases still see a considerable hike at 25.6%.
Here’s a breakdown of the peak surcharges and the dates you can expect to see them on your invoices.

FedEx says these price increases are in direct response to incremental costs they’re facing due to limited air cargo capacity. After December 27, the fees will return to their November 29 rates.
With so many fluctuating surcharges this year, the already-complicated rate guides from both FedEx and UPS are increasingly difficult to read and understand. FedEx’s surcharge page looks simple at first glance, but these changes are hidden in complicated footnotes.
